Once you have completed the Online Readiness Course (scoring an 80% or higher on the final assessment), the hold from your account will be removed within approximately 24 hours. 

Are DE students able to participate in extracurricular activities on the PHSC campus?

Yes! As their high school schedules allow, DE students are strongly encouraged to be actively involved in the PHSC community by participating in student clubs, organizations and extracurricular activities.

Are students who successfully pass the Advance Placement (AP), ACE, International Baccalaureate (IB), or CLEP examination allowed to enroll in the same course for dual enrollment credit?

No. Students who pass the AP, ACE, IB, or CLEP examination are not permitted to earn postsecondary credit for that course via dual enrollment.

Can I register for classes without completing the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation?

Dual enrollment students will not be permitted to register for classes until the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation course has been completed and the student hold removed.

Can I register for online classes without completing the Online Readiness Course?

No. The Online Readiness Course must be completed in advance of enrolling into any online courses. 

Can new dual enrollment students complete the online admissions application?

Yes, new dual enrollment students can complete the dual enrollment application through the Bobcat Application Portal. 

Do I have to complete the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation in one sitting?

No. You may complete the course in one sitting or come and go from the course – even over several days. The modules you completed will be saved, so you can pick up where you left off.

How can I sign up for the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation?

All new and continuing dual enrollment students who have completed the Online Dual Enrollment application are automatically enrolled in the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation course.

How can I sign up for the Online Readiness Course?

The Online Readiness course is located on the PHSC website in the Canvas learning platform. You will access the Online Readiness Course by:

  1. Logging into myPHSC
  2. Going to Canvas
  3. Selecting the “Online Readiness at PHSC” course from your “Courses” menu. 
How do I access the Canvas learning platform?
  1. Go to myPHSC Bobcat Portal.
  2. Click on Canvas, after you have successfully entered the myPHSC portal.
  3. Accept the invitation (in Canvas) to join the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation. If you do not see the invitation to accept at the top of the Canvas page, the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation can be found under the ‘Courses’ tab.
  4. Complete the Online Readiness Course located in the ‘Courses’ tab, after completing the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation. Completion of the Online Readiness Course is required to register for any online class.

How do I qualify for DE?

DE students must have an unweighted 3.0 high school GPA (for college credit courses) or a 2.0 high school GPA (for technical credit courses) and are required to take a College Placement Test (PERT/SAT/ACT/CLT score are accepted). All DE students must have a full battery of test scores on record to qualify for dual enrollment.

How does a student access their PHSC email?

Dual enrollment students access their PHSC email through the PHSC Student Portal.

How long after I complete the dual enrollment online admissions application can I begin the online dual enrollment request form?

Students can begin the online dual enrollment request form approximately two-three days after completing the online admissions application. 

How long does it take to complete the Online Readiness Course?

It varies, of course, but you should be able to complete it in 2 hours. Completion of the Online Readiness course requires students to work through all five modules and obtain a score of 80% or higher on the final assessment. So, don’t just scan the information – it might be in a question at the end! 

How long does the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation take?

It varies, of course, but you should be able to complete it in two hours. At the end of each module, you will have to take a quiz, and you must achieve 100 percent before you can move on to the next module. So, don’t just scan the information – it might be in a question at the end!

How long will the students’ test scores remain in the online registration system (Online Dual Enrollment Form)?

Dual enrollment required documents (i.e. test scores, GPA, and prerequisite/co-requisite documentation) are only valid for one semester within the Online Dual Enrollment Form.

How many classes should I include on my course registration request form?

Students will indicate their course selection from a drop-down menu of all eligible courses being taught during the semester. Students are encouraged to include the maximum number of courses, fourteen (14), on the form. Note: If the course selections indicated are full and the student does not have additional courses approved, the student will need to submit a new request form to include the additional courses, which would start the approval process all over.

How will students access the online registration system?

Students will access the Banner online registration system via the myPHSC portal.

How will students be notified of their course approval?

The dual enrollment student will receive an email after the parent, high school counselor, and PHSC academic advisor reviews the form. After the PHSC academic advisor has approved/denied the course(s) the student selected, he/she will receive an email to their PHSC email account listing the course(s) and the approval status. If a course or courses are denied, it will list the reason for the denial.

If a PHSC academic advisor denies a course, will the entire course request be denied or just that course?

Should PHSC academic advisors deny a course, only that course will be denied. However, the PHSC academic advisor does have the option to reject the entire request if the dual enrollment eligibility requirements (GPA, test scores, and prerequisites) are not met.

If I complete the Online Readiness Course, but do not take an online course in the next semester, will I need to repeat the course?

No. The Online Readiness Course will meet the requirement for all future semesters.

Is the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation mandatory?

Yes, effective Fall semester 2019 (20201), all dual enrollment students must successfully complete the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation.

Is the Online Readiness Course mandatory?

Yes, all students new to PHSC who want to take online courses are required to complete the Online Readiness course – even if the student has transfer credits and is not a first time in college student. The online readiness course is not required for students who are only taking on-campus courses. 

Is transportation provided for DE students?

All students are responsible for their own transportation.

Most natural science courses require a lab, are dual enrollment students required to complete the lab?

Dual enrollment students should register for the theory and laboratory course during the same semester (e.g., BSC 1085 – Human Anatomy and Physiology and BSC 1085L – Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab).

What are the teaching modalities available to a dual enrollment student?

Depending on grade level, dual enrollment students may take a dual enrollment course at the high school, on a PHSC campus, or online, as approved by the high school counselor.

What if I don’t score 80 percent or higher on the Dual Enrollment Online Orientation final comprehension quiz?

You may take the final quiz as many times as you need to reach the 80 percent score required. You may also go back into the course to review areas as needed.

What if I don’t score 80% or higher on the final assessment?

You may take the assessment as many times as you need to reach the 80% required.  You may also go back into the course to review areas as needed. 

What if the parent/guardian doesn’t have an email address?

The parent/guardian must have an email address as the online process requires an electronic signature for a parent/guardian authorization. The parent/guardian may obtain a free email account from gmail.com or yahoo.com.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment (DE) is a program where students attend college courses at PHSC and/or their high school to earn credits toward fulfilling high school graduation requirements, while also earning credits toward a college degree.

What is the cost to participate in DE?

There is no cost for application, tuition, or required textbooks for Pasco and Hernado County public, private and home school dual enrollment students. Books are loaned to students by PHSC and must be returned to the respective school district at the end of each semester. For private and homeschool students, books are also on loan and must be returned at the end of each semester to the PHSC College Store location in New Port Richey. 

What should students do if they do not receive email notification and/or confirmation?

The students should check their spam folder for an email from forms@phsc.edu.

Yes, dual enrollment students who applied for admissions over a year ago but never enrolled in a dual enrollment course or who have not enrolled in a dual enrollment course for one year or more will be allowed to submit the reapplication via the online dual enrollment application.

Will my credits from PHSC transfer to other Florida colleges and universities?

Yes, your credits will be fully transferable within the state of Florida; however, for private or out-of-state schools, please contact that school directly.

Will the online registration system prevent dual enrollment students from registering for accelerated courses?

Yes, the online registration system has been programmed to prevent public school dual enrollment students from registering for an accelerated course. Private and home school dual enrollment students are eligible for accelerated semesters.
